A newly discovered ransomware variant is targeting small and medium-sized businesses through malicious email attachments and compromised websites. Once installed, the malware encrypts files across the infected system and sometimes spreads to other devices on the same network. Victims are then presented with a ransom note demanding payment in cryptocurrency in exchange for the decryption key. Security experts warn that paying the ransom does not guarantee file recovery and encourages organizations to maintain secure backups.
